Easy Halloween Costumes for Expert Procrastinators

I love Halloween, really I do. Back in the day I would plan my costume a month in advance. After graduating from undergrad though, I’ve found my Halloween planning skills lacking. Now, if you’re like me, October 31st rolls around before you know it, and you find yourself scrambling to put together a semi-cohesive costume. Even though Halloween isn’t officially celebrated here, there are tons of Halloween parties at bars, so I find myself needing a costume anyhow, without the benefit of having a bunch of cheap costumes available at every corner drugstore. Luckily, these easy DIY costumes are here to save the day (most of which are probably already in your closet).

  1. A Bunch of Grapes

via Delish

All you need for this easy costume is a bunch of purple (or light green) balloons, some green construction paper for a leaf, and a bunch of duct tape. Keep a glass of vino in hand to complete the look.

  1. Risky Business

via Lauren Conrad

This one’s a classic: Oversized white dress shirt, white tube sucks, men’s briefs (or bike shorts), and black wayfarers.

  1. Rosie the Riveter

Via StyleCaster

All you need is a red bandana, flannel shirt, and some pinup hair and makeup. Be prepared to flex one bicep all night.

  1. Not So Scary Scarecrow

Via The Joy Of Fashion Blog

Another flannel shirt costume. Pair it with jeans, boots, and a floppy hat. Extra points for straw in the boots. The Joy of Fashion Blog has a tutorial for the makeup.

  1. Pineapple

via Studio DIY

Have something yellow? Have green construction paper? Poof! You’re a pineapple.

  1. Sushi

via Gurl.com

Continuing on with the food theme here, a white outfit, green scarf, and salmon colored pillow make you instant sushi.

  1. 50 Shades of Grey

via HuffPost

Head to the hardware store and grab some paint samples to be 50 shades of grey. Get it? Get it? Of course you do. Handcuffs not required.

  1. French Kiss

via HuffPost

Hey look, another pun! All you need is face paint, a striped shirt, and a beret.

  1. Snapchat Filter

via Refinery29

This one only requires makeup. And a continuous open mouthed smile. And the patience to deal with people asking you to take a snap with them all night. The tutorial is here.

  1. 404 Not Found

via CostumeWorks

If all else fails and you’re out of time, use a sharpie and a white shirt to make your excuse. Extra points for drawing the little Chrome dinosaur.

Happy haunting! Be sure to comment with your favorite costumes!
